Objective To study the change of erythrocyte configuration after cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR). Methods Venous blood samples from 33 patients with post-CPR syndrome were randomly collected and observed. Specimens of erythrocyte configuration after CPR were made by scanning electron microscopy. Results The erythrocyte configuration in all the patients was metamorphosed .The erythrocytes lost the biconcave disk structure, showed distortion and deformity, were stacked between cells, with an apparent cell spinous process and blunt serrated process. Cracked and activated platelets were observed. Conclusions Transformation is possibly a primary cause of microcirculatory disturbance and syndrome after cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
