Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of candesartan for erythropoietin on nephrotic anemia in maintenance hemodialysis patients（MHD）． Methods Forty patients with MHD were randomly divided into two groups：treatment group（ n =20）and control group（ n =20）．Patients in the treatment group were daily given candesartan combined with erythropoietin while patients in the control group were given erythropoietin only．C-reactive protein（CRP），interlukin-6（IL-6），tumor necrosis factor alpha（TNF-α）and haematoglobin（Hb）were assayed before treatment and after six months of treatment． Results After 6 months of treatment，the level of serum CRP，IL-6 and TNF-αdecreased significantly in the treatment group（P <0.05），while Hb and Hct in the treatment group increased remarkably（ P <0.05）．However, there were no significant changes in the control group before and after treatment．There was significant difference between the combined treatment group and the control group（ P <0.05）． Conclusions Candesartan combined with erythropoietin improves symptoms of nephrotic anemia，the mechanism of which may be the relief of the microinflammatory reaction in MHD patients．
