Abstract

Objective To study the early effect of systemical therapy on peri-implant tissues in patients with severe periodontitis. Methods Fifteen periodontally healthy patients and twelve patients with severe periodontitis(SP) were enrolled in this study. Periodontally healthy patients received 25 Straumann implants while the SP patients received 38 Straumann implants. One and two years after prosthesis, the modified plaque index, modified sulcus bleeding index, probing depth ,and X-ray examinations were recorded in an standard manner. Results There was no significant difference between periodontally healthy patient group and the SP patient group in all the clinical parameters recorded(P>0.05). Conclusion Prosthesis can produce satisfactory effect on partially edentulous patients who receive systemical therapy for severe periodontitis, but long-term effects need to be observed in the future.
