Objective To study the effect of hyperuricemia on the determination of fasting glucose using glucose oxidase method and hexokinase method. Methods Blood glucose levels in forty-two hyperuricemic patients and 50 healthy subjects were measured by oxidase method and hexokinase method using Mindray BS300 biochemistry analyzer. The difference and relevance between the two Methods were investigated. Results The blood glucose result by glucose oxidase method was(6.61±1.64) mmol/L while that by hexokinase method was (7.17±1.66)mmol/L.The result of oxidase method was below the true value. There was positive correlation between the uric acid value and the difference of blood glucose Results in hyperuricemic group. Conclusions The blood glucose value tends to be low by glucose oxidase method. Either correction or hexokinase method is needed.
