Objective To observe changes in blood pressure (BP) during morning rise in elderly patients with essential hypertension, so as to take effective measures to prevent some unexpected accidents. Methods We measured the changes in BP during morning blood pressure rise in 76 elderly patients. Results There was a marked drop of BP in 76 elderly patients at 30,60,120,and 180 minutes after taking breakfast and medicine (P＜0.01，P＜0.05), especially in those aged over 80. It showed that more clinical symptoms with meal and medicine -related drop of BP occurred in elderly patients. Conclusions We should take effective measures to prevent some unexpected accidents associated with meal and medicine -related drop of BP in elderly patients. We should pay more attention to giving elderly patients health education.
