Objective To study the effect of special electromagnetic therapeutic apparatus (TDP) therapy on the dried ear rate, survival rate of transplanted fascia, and prevention of fungal infection in the patients with otitis media and mastoiditis after operations. Methods Sixty-eight cases (ears) treated with special electromagnetic waves (trial group) were compared with the 66 cases with routine treatment (control group). Results All the 68 cases in trial group achieved dried ears in 15 days after removing the dressing in the external canals, and none of which were found fungal infection in 6 months’ follow-up. The survival rate of transplanted fascia in 36 cases of treatment group was 100%. The response rates in the control groups were 18.18% (P＜0.05 ), 14.8% (P＜0.05), and 75% (P＜0.025 ), respectively. Conclusions The special electromagnetic waves treatment is helpful in raising the rate of dried ear and surviving transplanted fascia, and is excellent in shortening drying ear time and preventing fungal infection in external canals.
