Objective To study the effect of sesame oil on healing care of dried scab skin lesions in patients with allergic vasculitis. Methods Sixty-one patients with allergic vasculitis and severe dried-crab skin lesion were studied; they were hospitalized in Department of Rheumatology in PLA General Hospital from December, 2009 to May, 2012. The patients were divided into 2 groups randomly. The patients in normal healing group (n=26) were treated with physiological saline debridement, then external application of silver ion antibacterial dressing. The patients in trial group (n=35) were treated with application of sesame oil to soak the scabs off after the normal procedure, then application of silver ion antibacterial dressing. Their healing status was observed. Results In the trial group, the recovering time was shortened; the small wound dry scabs normally dropped off within（5.3±1.0）days, healing of small area wound（≤6 cm²）or decrease in area of the wound was observed within（13.2±1.2）days. There were significant differences between the two groups in their dried scab drop-off time（P＜0.01）. Compared with the normal healing group, the trial group had much more cases whose dried scabs dropped off or healed up, and more cases whose pain feelings were relieved or significantly relieved (P<0.01). The healing intervention effects had no significant differences between blood scabs and the pus scabs. Conclusions Sesame oil promotes the healing process of dried scab skin lesions in patients with allergic vasculitis, also relieves their pain, and can be applied to scab healing in clinical care.
