Intra cavitary semiconductor laser irradiation in treatment of varicose great saphenous vein

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy and complications of intra cavitary semiconductor laser irradiation in treatment of varicose great saphenous vein. Methods In this hospital from January 2006 to May 2012,220 (310 legs) patients with varicose great saphenons veins were recruited, 120 of whom (160 legs) underwent intra cavitary D-980 semiconductor laser treatment; the rest were treated surgically. Between the two groups average operation time, bleeding volume, duration of hospitalization and complications were compared. Results Endovenous laser treatment of varicose great saphenous vein, compared with conventional surgery, had shorter operative time, less bleeding, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery, no tissue trauma and wound scars, and other advantages. Conclusions Endovenous laser treatment of varicose great saphenous vein is superior to traditional surgery.
