Functional palatopharyngoplasty in treatment of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome

Abstract

Objective To study the effect of functional PPP on OSAHS. Methods We used micro-movement sensitive mattress sleep monitoring system (MSMSMS) and 256 CT to evaluate the effect of the functional PPP on OSAHS. Results Cure was attained in 3 cases (5.1%),obvious effect in 39 cases(67.2%),effect in 8 cases(13.8%), no effect in 8 cases(13.8%) among 58 patients with OSAHS. AHI(P<0.01) and SaO2(P<0.05) showed significant difference before surgery and after surgery. The crosssection areas of the posterior areas of palate and tongue were wider than those before surgery .Conclusions Functional UPPP is a safe and efficient treatment for OSAHS.
