Efficacy of endoscopic optic nerve decompression in optic nerve injury

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic efficacy of endoscopic optic nerve decompression in optic nerve injury. Methods Clinical data of 28 patients (28 eyes) diagnosed as having optic nerve injury in Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery,General Hospital of People’s Armed Police Forces from August 2013 to April 2014 were analyzed retrospectively. All the patients were treated by endonasal optic nerve decompression.The clinical therapeutic efficacy and the postoperative visual acuity of these patients were obsereved and analyzed. Results Clinical symptoms improved in fifteen of the patients after the operation. Of 24 patients who had no light perception,12 cases (12 eyes) got better after operation.Three patients (3 eye) with poor vision before operation had improved vision after operation. Conclusions The endoscopic optic nerve decompression is effective in improving the visual acuity in optic nerve injury patients.
