Therapeutic effect of compound betamethasone combined with sodium hyaluronate on degenerative meniscus injury

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of compound betamethasone combined with sodium hyaluronate in the treatment of degenerative meniscus injury.Methods Forty-nine patients with degenerative meniscus injury (observation group) were treated with compound betamethasone combined with sodium hyaluronate in our hospital from Jan 2014 to Dec 2015. Another 45 patients with degenerative meniscus injury (control group) had been treated with simple sodium hyaluronate injection between June 2012 and December 2013. The therapeutic effect of the two groups was observed.Results The total effective rate(93.9%) in the observation group was better than that (82.2%) in the control group (P<0.05). There was no statistical differences in the IKDC score between the two groups before the treatment (P>0.05). After 6 months, the IKCK score (76.1±9.8)in the observation group was better than that (61.9±7.7) in the control group(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in Lysholm score between the two groups before the treatment (P>0.05). After 6 months of treatment, the Lysholm score (87.8±8.6) in the observation group was significantly higher than that (71.1±6.9)in the control group (P<0.05). After 6 months, The levels of serum NO and IL-1β in control group and observation group were significantly lower than before the treatment (P<0.05).The levels of NO and IL-1β inobservation groupwas better than that in control group (P<0.05).Conclusions Compound betamethasone combined with sodium hyaluronate is superior to sodium hyaluronate alone in the treatment of degenerative meniscus injury.
