Objective To explore the feasibility and efficacy of dermabrasion followed by ultra thin split thickness scalp grafting for depigmentation after burn. Methods Five patients (3 males and 2 females, or 2 inpatients and 3 outpatients) with a total of nine depigmented areas were treated with dermabrasion followed by ultra thin split thickness scalp grafting between March 2013 and July 2016. The depigmented areas ranged from 1 cm×0.8 cm to 3 cm×4 cm in size, and depigmentation lasted from 1 to 16 years after burn injury. Results All the skin grafts survived well with similar colors and elasticity to recipient sites during the 1 to 26 months of follow-up. The donor sites healed well with normal hair. Conclusions Dermabrasion followed by ultra thin split thickness scalp grafting is an easy and effective approach to depigmentation after burn.
