Abstract

Objective To summarize the clinical characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of urothelial neoplasms in renal transplantation recipients. Methods The clinical data on thirty-one cases of urothelial neoplasms following renal transplantation treated between July 2004 and December 2017 was retrospectively analyzed. The clinical characteristics of the disease, therapies and subsequent oncologic outcomes were compared. Results Among the thirty-one cases, ten were males and the rest were females. Fifteen of them had ureter urothelial neoplasms, seven had urothelial neoplasms from the bladder, three had urothelial neoplasms from both the ureter and bladder, five had pelvis urothelial neoplasms, and one had urothelial neoplasms from the transplanted renal pelvis. All the cases received surgical operations and seventeen received a second operation because of tumor recurrence during the follow-up. Seven of these cases died, including six from tumor progression and one from intestinal obstruction and sepsis. Conclusions The incidence of urothelial neoplasms following renal transplantation increases, and the best treatment is early diagnosis and early surgical resection.
