Abstract

Objective To summarize the clinical features of cataracts in young soldiers undergoing phacoemulsification in order to analyze the factors affecting the prognosis of visual acuity. Methods The clinical data on 31 young soldiers with cataracts (36 eyes) undergoing phacoemulsification was collected and retrospectively analyzed. The potential influencing factors of visual prognosis were included into Logistic regression analysis. Results Logistic regression analysis involving a history of ocular trauma, vitrectomy, myopia surgery and uveitis showed that a history of ocular trauma (OR=0.149) and vitrectomy (OR=0.059) were risk factors for visual prognosis, while a history of uveitis (OR=0.145) was a possible risk factor for visual prognosis. Conclusions Visual prognosis of traumatic cataracts and complicated cataracts secondary to vitrectomy, which are the most common types of cataracts in young soldiers, is poor, thus prevention of ocular trauma and retinal detachment is critical in normal times.
