Effects of static loads of different intensities on intraocular pressure and blood pressure in healthy

Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of static loads of different intensities on intraocular pressure (IOP) and blood pressure (BP) in healthy individuals. Methods Forty-five healthy individuals were randomly selected from the healthy population as study subjects. The average IOP and BP were measured in a standing position. The average IOP and BP were measured when the subjects held weights of 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0, 12.5, 15.0, 17.5, and 20.0 kg with both hands. The average IOP and BP were remeasured at 10, 20, 30, and 60 minutes after the load was removed. The IOP and BP values under the unloaded state served as baseline reference values. The values of IOP and BP under different intensity load conditions and the IOP values at various time points after load removal were detected as the experimental group values. Results The average IOP under varying load intensities was significantly elevated compared with the unloaded condition, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). However, no statistically significant difference in IOP was detected between the 2.5 kg load condition and other loaded conditions. In contrast, the average BP under various load intensities showed statistically significant differences compared with the no-load condition (P<0.001), with blood pressure being consistently higher than baseline values. After unloading, the average IOP at 10, 20, and 30 minutes exhibited significant differences compared with baseline values (P<0.05). At 60 minutes of load relief, there was no statistically significant difference in the average IOP compared with the baseline values. (P > 0.05). Conclusions Under different static load intensity conditions, both IOP and BP levels demonstrate a transient upward trend, with IOP gradually stabilizing after the load was relieved.
