Abstract

Objective To systematically evaluate the effects of swimming training on the cardiovascular system. Methods The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, SCI, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Journal full-text Database, VIP Database and Wanfang Database were searched via the computer. Randomized controlled trials on the benefit of swimming training for functions of the cardiovascular system were included in this study. Bias risk analysis was performed for inclusion study and meta-analysis was performed for homogeneous results. Results The results of meta-analysis showed that swimming training reduced systolic blood pressure [MD=-6.07, 95%CI (-10.19,-1.95), P<0.01)], diastolic blood pressure [MD=-2.77,95%CI (-5.09,-0.45), P<0.01], resting heart rate[MD=-4.02, 95% CI(-5.47,-2.56), P<0.01)], total cholesterol[MD=-9.05,95%CI(-11.32,-6.77),P<0.01], LDL[MD=-4.08,95%CI(-5.69,-2.48),P<0.01), and triglyceride[MD=-8.40, 95%CI (-15.16,-1.63), P<0.05]more significantly than in the control group, and there was significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions Swimming training can significantly benefit patients in terms of cardiovascular system health, including blood pressure and blood lipids.
